Note that although I wrote this review for the natural finish model, since there were no reviews for the sunburst model, I figured Id post my review here as well
I only wish there this well-made good sounding Rogue had been available for $99 when I first started playing nearly 25 years ago. For a first guitar (or for a backup for those who are more experienced), this guitar is an amazing deal.
Given the fact that it has a laminated sitka spruce top, the tone is not as bright and clear as a higher cost guitar, but nonetheless it sounds great given the price.
I had consistently read elsewhere that the action on this guitar was quite high, but at $99 I was willing to risk having to adjust the action. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the action was perfect out of the box.
The Fishman Classic 4 electronics work just as expected with the resulting thin-ish tone expected from using a standard-model piezo pickup. If you record the Rogue with a good mike in combination with the pickup, it will sound just fine.
Because I like a very bright but full sound, I replaced the dull sounding Martins with a set of GHS White Bronze (WBM), which according to GHS are magnetically active, ideal for acoustic/electric applications Finally, to get as big a sound of the Rogue as possible, I replaced the standard plastic bridge pins with a set of DAndrea brass pins. The brass pins give it a slightly bigger and brighter sound, offsetting the fact that it has a laminate top.
Overall the Rogue Cutaway is a remarkable guitar given the price. The sound might not be ideal, but given that the Fishman electronics cost nearly $100 themselves, its astonishing that an instrument like this goes for $99. For anyone buying their first acoustic guitar, this guitar is a steal. Likewise, for semi-pros playing on stage or using as a second guitar, this is a great instrument to have in your line-up.

The first part of this article is my personal opinion, please do not become offended.
We all know the harmful long term and short term side effects of tobacco. Tobacco companies themselves warn us on the packages that their product is the leading cause of death in North America. Yet they continue to market it and the government makes too much money off the sales of tobacco to ever de-legalize it. The sad truth is the government cares more about money then they will ever care about our health.
Smokers, who started in the past 10 years when it was publicly known how harmful smoking was, created their own pain. Everyone in this world has the ability to make decisions, and the decision not to smoke should be an easy one to make. Now not everyone was smart enough to make the decision in the first place, but many come to realize the mistake years down the road. Those people often say things like "I WISH I could quit" or "I WISH I never started smoking" These types of statements are weak minded statements, and its obvious that these were the same people who made the stupid mistake in the first place.
I know all the medical information about addictions. I realize how they work, and how powerful they can be. I know nicotine, like other addictive drugs, creates a chemical dependency, so that the body develops a "need" for certain levels of nicotine at all times. If this level is not maintained the body will go thru withdrawal. Withdrawal from nicotine can be as serious as withdrawal from cocaine but what people need to realize is that withdrawal from nicotine never killed anyone. So withdrawal is probably better for you then smoking in the first place. Your body obviously doesnt "need" the smoke it just wants it so it doesnt have to go thru withdrawals.
People who say they "need" a smoke should probably just go ahead and have it anyways. Most of us know what the necessities for life are, and smoking is defiantly not one of them. This just goes to show what state of mind some smokers have. People should be saying "I want a smoke", this is the first step to quitting believe it or not. Realizing that you do not "need" a smoke is the key; from here you can make the next changes to your attitude.
The next step is to know that EVERYONE can quit! I dont care if youve been addicted to heroin, speed and crack for 30 years, you can still quit! People dont realize a positive attitude is the key to achieving anything. If you dont think in your mind that you can quit, you never will, and you might as well stop reading, and have a smoke. Those who are ready to believe that they have it in them to quit, lets continue.
After realizing you dont "need" a smoke and that it IS possible for you to quit, the third step is to practice quitting something less addictive. This works on self control, and confidence. So pick a bad habit or useless activity such as staring mindlessly at the TV for hours every night, and stop! Give it up for 4 weeks. Some other examples are, biting nails, cracking your knuckles, swearing, eating junk food, eating fast food, drinking, spending money on useless stuff, and masturbating excessively. Just about any compulsive action that you might do that is potentially harmful to your health that you dont "need" to survive is acceptable. Choose one that you think you can give up for month. Now remember, this is used to quit smoking, so this excersise WILL NOT work if you smoke as a substitute. You must continue your regular smoking habits or even try slowing them down to prepare for the quitting faze.
If you picked a bad habit to break and did it for a solid month, you should no longer feel a "need" for it. You may still think about it, you may still even want it, but you are strong enough to say NO! If you did this correctly, you should feel good about yourself, you should feel confident, and you are now ready for the next step.
Here comes the hard part, but you know you are ready, you can do anything! Stay Positive! Go to your doctor, tell him you are about to quit smoking, tell him the steps you have done already and that you are ready to make the commitment. He should be able to give you some advice and help you get started. Dont use the patch or gum yet! Before you go ahead and do anything, try following these steps.

Gary Fong Is A Genius! The C4 Cloud Lightsphere II is a MUST HAVE!
I have never used an add-on light diffuser before; just the built-in, flip-down diffuser that comes with most hot shoe flash units. I always figured that using the bounce flash method was about the best I could do to subdue the harshness of the strobe light coming from the flash. After reading several rave reviews about the Gary Fong Lightsphere II Inverted Dome Flash Diffusion System, I decided to go ahead and give it a try.

I have been using the Lightsphere for a few days now and I am extremely impressed. It's sort of an ugly looking attachment to have sitting atop your flash head, and people always ask me "What the heck is that sticking up from your flash?" Well what the Lightsphere II lacks in beauty it definately makes up for in quality flash photos. It softens the light from the flash just enough. I will not go on and on about all of the different uses this diffusion system offers, but I will say that once you try it you will likely want to use it for nearly all of your flash photos.

The C4 Cloud Lightsphere II comes with the primary dome, an inverted dome cover, and a promotional DVD which gives a detailed look at the function and ease of use of this product. The DVD also shows other products designed by Gary Fong. It is a long presentation, with very amateur video and audio quality, but it is definately worth a watch. It will show you the proper way to use the Lightsphere II, and provides several examples of flash photos with and without the Lightsphere II attached. I must say my biggest complaints about this diffusion system is the size (doesn't fit into my camera bag, so I must tote it around seperately), and it is hard to fit it onto the head of my Canon 580EX flash. The entire unit is flexible, so you can stretch it over your flash head, but it can be a bit of a struggle at times, especially when you are in a hurry. I have high hopes that the unit will fit easier after repeated use. Overall I am extremely happy with the Gary Fong C4 Cloud Lightsphere II system, and I highly recommend it to anyone that is serious about taking great pictures with a SLR or digital SLR camera.

Tough Life; Tough Woman
This memoir reads as if it were two different books. The part dealing with her early work in British musical theater (after her emergence from the dying music hall tradition) reads mostly, but not entirely, like a stereotypical "show-biz" memoir, full of good friends, great colleagues and generally lovely people. It is saved from utter cliche by two things: First, Andrews clearly portrays the hard, wearing and sometimes humiliating work that goes into performing at the highest levels (particularly while trying to establish one's self). Second, she portrays some of the nastiness that can go on in this world where your status rises and falls with each performance and your ego and self-esteem with it. Fear of failure is powerful and all-pervading.

Andrews provides a number of startling vignettes that are distinctly not of the "beautiful person" school. There is Rex Harrison trying hard to get the very young (around 21) Andrews fired from My Fair Lady during rehersals while she was struggling to find herself in the role. Harrison did not care one whit who (including Andrews) might overhear him or the obscene and abusive language that he used. There is Richard Burton dealing with the pressure of performance in Camelot by the occasional heavy drinking binge and appearing on stage while totally drunk. Burton, a famous and successful womanizer, also tried to seduce the younger Andrews and did not scruple to try to manipulate her into his bed by undermining her sense of security as an actor in working with him. Nasty stuff and there are other such stories involving lesser known people. It is worth noting that Andrews does not mention receiving any help from other cast members while Harrison was busy trying to destroy her. The great director Moss Hart, however, showed enormous faith and patience and worked one-on-one with her to save her confidence, her role and probably her theater career. She says that she loved him for it, and I do not doubt her.

The other book, though, is about her childhood; and the events that it relates are often bleak and occasionally harrowing. Born in 1935, Andrews clearly remembers the bombs falling on London during the Battle of Britain and the Blitz of 1940-41. Her mother was an accomplished pianist and her Dad (as she always calls him) a working man. Her mother was working as a pianist at a resort when she met another man and left the family to live with him and eventually marry him. The two of them formed an act for the British music halls (vaudeville). Her mother insisted that Andrews come to live with her and her new husband and Dad acquiesced. This was a terrible blow to Andrews because Dad was essentially the only source of love in her life that was reliable, responsible and unconditional.

Nonetheless off Andrews went. She neither liked nor trusted her stepfather whom her mother insisted that Andrews call "Pop." Her new parents were busy working on their music hall career and became successful enough to be "second top" performers, especially after they discovered Andrews's amazing voice and other talents. She became part of the act and traveled with them. Success did not last, however, because Pop had ever growing alcohol problems which eventually affected his work and made him unemployable. Money became scarce, and he reacted in a very typical way: he began first to have flaming arguments and then to beat first his wife and eventually their two younger sons. Andrews, in her room, overheard many of these episodes and felt guilt for not somehow intervening. She is certain that her mother, whom she believes was abused in her own childhood, sometimes deliberately goaded Pop until he exploded into violence.

Pop apparently never beat Andrews but did make sexual advances to her at least twice, once when she was about ten and again when she was about 16. Each time she successfully forestalled him; but after the second occasion her mother's sister had a lock installed on Andrews's bedroom door, a necessary precaution as the drunk and befuddled Pop tried the door just after the lock was installed. He never tried again.

Andrews's primary sources of love and comfort during these times were her Dad, her aunt (she of the bedroom lock) and her voice teacher. Only her aunt had some periods when she was around Andrews more or less constantly. Her Dad could not be, but he seems to have simply suffused her with love when he was able to see her.

Andrews now became the main breadwinner for the family as her mother also slipped into alcoholism. Her mother informed her that if she failed they would lose their house, so there was plenty of pressure on a very young child. Her mother also one day took her to a house party and had her sing for the guests there. The party's host then questioned her closely. On the way home her mother informed Andrews that this man was Andrews's actual biological father. Her Dad, who loved Andrews's mother, had married her while she was pregnant and raised Andrews as his own child. This must have been shocking to Andrews but she does not make much of her reaction, and it certainly did not affect her relationship with her Dad.

We now know how deeply unsettling, indeed devastating, this sort of family background can be to the emotional life of a child and the adult that they grow to be. Some people can be emotionally stunted in various ways for life. Andrews herself is unlikely to be unscathed. The prose style that she employs in discussing these events is telling in this regard. She writes frankly and clearly about them, but she is guarded. Her tone is matter of fact, much as if she were describing what had happened to someone else. It is a tribute to her that she was able apparently to be not merely functional but greatly successful as an actor, a mother and a wife.
